Tannin/Lignin Test Kit

Measure tannins and lignins in water, wastewater, and boiler water. In the tyrosine method, hydroxylated aromatic compounds react to produce a blue color. The intensity of the developed color is proportional to the concentration present and is measured visually using a color disc.
Tannin occurs in natural waters and is used for boiler and cooling tower water treatment, dyeing, ink manufacture, tanning, and paper sizing. Lignin, also a plant product, is found in paper pulp manufacturing waste. Tannin and lignin are analyzed together and reported as mg/L tannic acid. The method measures from 0 - 15 mg/L or 0 - 150 mg/Las tannic acid.

No Instrumentation needed
The resulting color is measured with a color disc. Hach test kit model TA-3 is intended for water, wastewater, and boiler water and can be used over two ranges.
Important: The reaction is not completely specific to tannins and lignins. Other hydroxylated aromatic compounds, including phenol and cresol, may also respond. Refer to the instructions for method details and interference information.
