For customer preparation of microbiological media. Lauryl Tryptose Broth is a selective and differential liquid medium used primarily for the detection of coliform bacteria in water, wastewater, dairy products, and other foods. Lauryl sulfate inhibits the growth of non-coliforms. Lactose allows detection of fermentation by production of gas which is detected with a Durham tube (Hach PN 2162800). (turbidity and gas production indicates the presence of coliforms). Tubes showing gas are transferred to Brilliant Green Bile Broth (BGBB) or EC Medium and incubated at 44.5 °C to confirm fecal coliforms, especially E. coli.
