Function
Reduces nitrate (NO_₃^2-) to nitrite (NO_₃^2-) so it can be colorimetrically analyzed using the Greiss reagent. The Greiss reagent works via a diazotization reaction with nitrite to form a highly colored, pink/purple azo dye.

Efficiency
Calculated by dividing the nitrate response by the nitrite response:
E= (NO_₃^2-/ NO_₃^2-) x 100

Lifespan Tip
Adding 2 drops of 2g/100 mL copper sulfate solution per liter of buffer can extend column life by keeping the cadmium properly copperized.
