Brilliant green bile, dehydrated, 500 g

For customer preparation of microbiological media. Brilliant Green Bile Broth, 2 %, is used with the Most Probable Number (MPN) method to detect E. coli and other fecal coliforms in water, milk, food, and other materials. Bile salts and brilliant green make the medium selective by inhibiting Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (other than coliforms), respectively. Gas production from lactose fermentation is detected using an inverted Durham tube (Hach PN 2162800) and indicates a positive test for fecal coliforms. Although some non-fecal coliform bacteria may grow in this medium, most do not produce gas. Incubation at elevated temperatures (typically 44.5 - 45.5 °C) further enhances selectivity for thermotolerant fecal coliforms.
