The class will give an overview of the important of nutrient monitoring and removal in water and wastewater. Nitrogen compounds (ammonia, nitrate, total nitrogen), phosphate and total phosphorous will be analyzed via laboratory analysis, field methods, and process analyzers. We will also examine the role of dissolved oxygen, pH, ORP, and alkalinity as it relates to efficient nutrient removal in wastewater treatment. Various demonstrations and analytical techniques will include colorimetric, electrochemistry, and titrations. A brief overview of BNR removal systems will also be discussed.
